Elmer,

I wouldn't hazard a guess but I will remind you that AMD has never shipped revenue material from Dresden and who knows when they will.

You are a glass-is-half-empty kind of guy. Look at it this way: AMD had:
- record revenues last quarter
- will have record revenue and profits this quarter
- has gained 150% from January 1
- is sitting at all time high, 5th this week
and all of this with one hand tied behind it's back. Imagine AMD next quarter, fighting with both hands.

I'm holding my short positions expecting a pullback after earnings come out.

Are you short stock, or just puts and cc?

Joe

Elmer,

Sorry if I missed the post but when at what price did you short AMD?

re: "What do I think Dresden parts run at? I wouldn't hazard a guess but I will remind you that AMD has never shipped revenue material from Dresden and who knows when they will. The years go by and still no production. Yes that could change but so far it hasn't yet and your promises are wearing a little thin."

Are you calling Dresden a foil?

Aren't the samples coming from Dresden? Wouldn't samples to system and mobo makers be running very near where the revenue generating chips will be running?

I liked how the ZDnet (owned by Softbank, an investor in Intel) article mentioned the easier time AMD is having in pulling the virtual gorilla together this time around.

I wonder how many Spitfires and Thunderbirds Jerry will have in his closet at the time of their respective launches.

Hi Elmer - re: less than 2 million units is a letdown.

I don't think this is really fair. Athlon starts at 650 and you're comparing them to Intel's line which starts MUCH lower. It would be interesting to compare 650+ Athlons to 650+ CuMines. Even with Intel's constraints, they might be higher - but 2+ million over the last six months is nothing to scoff at considering those speeds (and the street likes it, too).

And a quick question - aren't you even just a teenie weenie bit worried that T-Bird might be as good as Willamette and that it might steal some of Willy's thunder? Just a little? I'm very interested in your HONEST opinion.

Thanks

Dave

Elmer,

anything less than 2 million units for Q1 is a real letdown

I put together 2 and 2 from yesterday's valuable data, provided by you and the press.

AMD sold 1.2 million Athlons at $900 each, for net sales of $1.08 billion dollars. These parts cost $100 each to manufacture, so the net profit is $960 million. Throw in an additional $40 million profit from flash, and AMD made exactly $1.0 billion profit in Q1. Look for the stock to reach $1000 by Monday afternoon, with a gap up of about $500 at the open.

BTW, you are misusing the term yields. Yields are not frequency specific.

We designer types use the terminology "yielding well at XXXMHz" all the time, and we understand exactly what eachother is talking about. I apologize if it offends the manufacturing/test folks.

The years go by and still no production. Yes that could change but so far it hasn't yet and your promises are wearing a little thin. In my book, anything less than 2 million units for Q1 is a real letdown, considering the hot market and Intel's continued constraints. Even at that Intel will manufacture an order of magnitude more CuMines than Athlons. I see a possible demand problem here for AMD if the numbers of Athlons come in low (<2 million). I'm holding my short positions expecting a pullback after earnings come out.

EP,

Have you thought about one of Intel's limited edition 1 G's?
I think it would look really nice mounted over your mantel in the livingroom!!
