With several dozen markets involved you would have to crunch a lot of numbers over time to say what is volatile and what isn't. But I agree that CPT has a great idea and plan to hold my shares long-term.

As Jim Glassman pointed out on CNN yesterday, US investors in the S&P index have had a very non-volatile year. While Naz players have gone berserk.

It's all relative, as usual.

26 Firms Seek Listing On Hong Kong GEM, 36 On Main Board

HONG KONG, Apr 1, 2000 -- (Reuters) The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Ltd said on Friday 26 companies were in the process of listing on the Growth Enterprise Market (GEM) and another 36 were seeking to list on the main board as at March 31.

Of the 26 GEM listing applications, 19 were being processed and another seven had secured the approval of the GEM listing committee in principle but had not yet listed, an exchange statement said.

Two other GEM applications had been rejected or withdrawn, it said.

A total of 18 companies have been listed on the GEM, Hong Kong's second trading board, since its launch last November.

Of the 36 main board applicants, 26 companies had already received approval from the listing committee but had not yet listed.

Eight companies had submitted A1 application forms for listing on the main board. Of those, six were being actively processed and the applications of the other two were inactive or on-hold, it said.

The exchange had conducted preliminary enquiry with two potential mainboard listing candidates which had not submitted A1 forms.

A total of nine companies have listed on the main board so far this year.
