Eric L: What you are suggesting if I understand you correctly is that CDG will capitulate completely.

Seeing that all "mainline" CDMA will be frozen out of standards bodies by the "powers that be" (politically, bureaucratically and with economic clout), CDG will have no choice but to accept dictation of terms lock stock and barrel or die.

A rather grim prospect for CDMA operators to face, no?

So the market and economic efficiency are weak reeds on which to lean, compared to the standards setting bureaucracies which will determine the outcome?

You may well be right, but that seems very sad, if so.

So it is 3GPP uber alles, or to mix metaphors, game, set and match.
