Sudanese oil production up 40 percent

KHARTOUM, April 12 (AFP) - Oil production in south and southwest
Sudan has risen by 40 percent from 150,000 to 210,000 barrels per
day (bpd), an energy ministry official said in remarks published
Wednesday.

The official, Nour Ed-Daim Abdel Hamid, said the increase was
registered on April 7 as a result of boosted production in Higleig
oil fields in South Kordofan state and Unity fields in south Sudan,
the official Al-Anbaa newspaper reported.

Abdel Hamid added that oil production was expected to rise to
250,00 bpd in June when 17 new wells are due to start operation.
