Scumbria, <Is there any chance that Intel has crippled the 815, to avoid a DRDRAM crisis?>

I don't think so. The risks of artificially crippling the 815 far outweigh the miniscule benefits of such a masquerade. I'm sure Intel is willing to drop RDRAM in a heartbeat should it turn out to be the dud that Tom Pabst claims it to be.

I'm just afraid that if 815 really does underperform Tom's overclocked 440BX, Tom will start claiming all sorts of conspiracy theories, perhaps even accuse Intel of artificially inflating their investment in RMBS. And Tom has a lot of loyal followers. It won't matter to them if Intel really made an honest effort to maximize performance with 815 and PC133.

<the real test will be T-Bird with DDR.>

No, actually the real test will be Coppermine with Micron's Samurai DDR chipset. This will be the definitive apples-to-apples comparison between RDRAM and DDR SDRAM.
