6 people living in lavish New York City apartments with virtually no jobs!!! You gotta love that!!

chic,

They are not exactly lavish but they are large for NYC. But who said tv or film had to be based on reality. We all need at times to get away from it all.

Try it some time, you might like it.

chic Re <<I'm not trashing friends!!! I love the show!!! How could anyone not appreciate this great reality based proggramming? 6 people living in lavish New York City apartments with virtually no jobs!!! You gotta love that!!>>

Who cares whether it is a realistic scenario. It is FUNNY! I watch it to laugh. Man, I feel for your girl friend or wife, whoever it is or will be.

Off topic! re: Friends,

<6 people living in lavish New York City apartments with virtually no jobs!!!>

I thought Ross and Chandler had real jobs. Maybe it's those two who are paying the living costs for everyone else. After all, we all know how Joey is staying off the streets ... ;-)

chic,

6 people living in lavish New York City apartments with virtually no jobs!!! You gotta love that!!

After we all learned about Eichlers, let me tell give you a clue about Manhattan rental market:

1 bedroom apartment (500 - 750sf): $2,000 - $3,000
2 bedroom apartment (800 - 1400sf): $3,500 - $7,000

Now, I have seen maybe 5 minutes of Friends - total (when typed in the channel number incorrectly), but it appears to me that their place must have at lest 3, if not more bedrooms, their living room is large, I guess the square footage may be over 2,500sf, which on the open market would get you to $10,000 to $20,000 category (sky really is the limit here)

So you have to figure that that each would have to pay $2,000 to $4,000 per month before taxes, taking into account that New York City is the most heavily taxed place in USA, you have to figure about 50% tax rate, which means they would have to make $4,000 to $8,000 per month or almost $50,000 to $100,000 per year just to pay rent on that place.
