If this is true then we should see a big increase in the number of Athlons shipped in Q1, right? I mean a measly 1.2-1.5 million would hardly support your statement if a constrained Intel ships 10x that number of CuMines.

Ted, certainly any simplistic explanation which doesn't include both sides wouldn't be reality. However, there are other intangibles which also should be included. One of them seems to be a feeling that most people on the web reading JC's or Anand's want AMD to succeed. So do many boxmakers and parts suppliers. Via would be a prime example, or how about the 69 mobos out now. AMD is gathering a lot of support from others in the industry because they fear Intel. All the polls I have seen lately favor AMD 3-1 over Intel; even on products where Intel has a slight edge on performance, 1 ghz poll on Anand's for instance. Even Intel is buying AMD stock, because Intel needs AMD if only to keep justice dept out and keep other
low cost competitors out, as Intel still doesn't fear AMD.

hmly,

I agree with most of what you say but I have a hard time buying that Intel is worried about the DOJ. I think neither MSFT nor Intc are worried as evidenced by MSFT's unwillingness to compromise and settle. Furthermore if AMD folded because it could not stand up to fair competition who is to fault Intel.
