e.Digital Announces Agreement to Support IBM's EMMS Copyright Management Technology
e.Digital's Portable Internet Music Player Designs on Display in IBM Booth at NAB Annual Meeting in Las Vegas April 10-13
SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 11, 2000-- e.Digital Corp. (OTCBB:EDIG - news) Tuesday announced that it has licensed EMMS (Electronic Music Management System), a copyright management solution for electronic music distribution, from IBM (NYSE:IBM - news) for use in e.Digital's portable Internet music player designs.

e.Digital's multi-codec design including support for EMMS can be incorporated into a variety of products including portable digital music players, home and automotive stereos, and functionally-enhanced wireless phones.

Fred Falk, e.Digital president and chief executive officer, said, ``We share IBM's goals to supply Internet music to the general population, while protecting the artists and record labels that create the content. IBM's EMMS solution provides for secure distribution and piracy protection for downloadable music content.' He continued, ``This agreement enhances our flexible designs and offers our licensees and OEM customers a leading portable music player with unmatched security features.'

Two of e.Digital's portable Internet music player designs will be on display in the IBM booth (No. L3337) at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Annual Meeting this week in Las Vegas. This marks the debut of the e.Digital/Maycom music player design incorporating IBM's EMMS content protection. e.Digital has also incorporated IBM's 340MB Microdrive into a portable Internet music player design, allowing storage of approximately 5 1/2 hours of CD-quality digital music. The NAB Annual Meeting will be attended by approximately 63,000 broadcast industry professionals and is not open to the public.

e.Digital's Internet audio player platform provides a broad range of functionality along with a flexible design enabled by their patented MicroOS(TM) file management system. The company has developed a menu of options to provide a quick time-to-market for manufacturers, licensees, or private-labelers interested in marketing devices capable of playing music downloaded from the Internet.
