"one third of outstanding shares (50 million) have turned over in the past 5 trading days between $61 and $79 with at least 80% of those between $69 and $79 probably altering average shareholder cost base dramatically"

The 50 million must represent much more than 1/3 of the "effective float," e.g. many institutions and mutual fund advisors can't simply dump a stock in one day. Tomorrow we should close back in the 70s with over 10 million in volume. On Wednesday I could see 25 million AMD shares traded and AMD hitting the high 80s.

Re: "I repeat that one third of outstanding shares (50 million) have turned over in the past 5 trading days between $61 and $79 with at least 80% of those between $69 and $79 probably altering average shareholder cost base dramatically. At $68, the net advance is $7 after the 5 days..The implications are that the new ownership was happy to pay between $61 and $79 a share based upon their assessment of AMD's future growth prospects and is probably looking for an above average ROI which means it may be difficult to buy these shares under $100 from those purchasers of the past 5 days...I cannot underestimate the importance of the past 5 days volume (approximately 350% above average weekly volume) as a positive technical indicator (even including today's MOT related selloff)! A second successive record breaking quarter, given the enormous volume of the past 5 days, has the potential for setting off a buying frenzy, imho, as shares of the new ownership may be in very short supply...By week's end AMD'll be much closer to $100 than $68, imho! "

Niceguy,

I really appreciate your cristal ball analysis. After such an unexpected and unsuccessful day. I need now a good movie to calm down(10.39 PM my time).
