It is true. In the absence of big checks from the gun lobby and military contractors, the Democrats frequently have to find other sources of cash to finance their campaigns.

I think it would be more efficient just to hand out the million dollar checks to Clinton directly from the treasury. The cost of the taxpayer of all these trips is high, not to mention the promises Clinton has to make to in order to receive the contributions. I wouldn't be surprised if for every dollar Clinton raised, he didn't give away $10 from the treasury.

But on the bright side, the fundraising trips kept Clinton away from doing his job as a president, which would have more negative consequences for the economy.
