Steven, I would be interested in seeing the results of a study of the individuals that you speak of in the various wars and "police actions". I think you will find that there was not nearly as much favoritism shown to celebs during WW2 than subsequent engagements. For instance, it is my understanding that Jimmy Stewart flew combat missions like any other Air Corps officer. I have no knowledge of the treatment of any of the other celebs in the service. I can imagine the studio execs pulled what weight they could but, I don't think the actors themselves really deserve any blame for that. My uncle, who was a flight engineer on a B-17 flying missions across the channel used to joke that they wouldn't let Clark Gable fly a plane because his ears were too big and caused too much air resistance on the aircraft.

Most of the celebs, especially today, have a huge ego problem and, in some cases, place themselves on a self-constructed pedestal. I share your cynicism for them. Many politicians are just, flat, dishonest. I know JLA will scream but, I think it is because most of them are lawyers and have it bred into them. ~H~
