McDATA Taps Wenninger for CIO Slot
BROOMFIELD, Colo., April 10 /PRNewswire/ -- McDATA© Corporation, a leading storage area network (SAN) company, today announced the appointment of Don Wenninger as chief information officer. Wenninger has fourteen years of experience managing information technology (IT) departments in networking and SAN companies. In addition to IT management, Wenninger's background in engineering technology management, product management and strategic manufacturing planning, makes him an exceptional fit to manage McDATA's growth.

As head of McDATA's IT department, Wenninger is responsible for global IT strategy, infrastructure, automation and integration of processes and ancillary systems, business systems (McDATA uses SAP to support business operations), supply chain integration, and worldwide electronic commerce. Wenninger reports directly to McDATA President and CEO Jack McDonnell.

``Finding a CIO of Don's caliber with direct experience in our industry is a boon for McDATA,' said McDonnell. ``Not only will he flawlessly manage our IT needs, his understanding of the IT infrastructure in an emerging high-growth market, is a valuable contribution to McDATA.'

Wenninger joined McDATA from switch player Vixel Corporation in Bothell, Wash., where he was vice president of information technology. Prior to Vixel, Wenninger was IS operations manager at Intermec in Everett, Wash., a company whose products span data collection hardware, network devices, mobile computers, bar code printers and label supplies. He also held a CAD/CAM integration planning post at Boeing in Seattle, Wash., and was a substrate and PC designer at IBM in Rochester, Minn.

Wenninger holds a masters degree in business administration with emphasis in engineering technology management, a masters degree in business administration with emphasis in information technology, and a bachelors degree in Business Administration and Computer Science, all from City University in Seattle, Wash. He is a member of the GartnerGroup CIO Best Practices Group.
