I read Stephenson's "Snow Crash" last out of the three and must admit that I liked his other two novels better. There is another author I like, S.M. Stirling, who was one of Pournelle's coauthors. He has written an alternate history where the whole island of Nantucket and its modern inhabitants are displaced about three thousand years into the past where they promptly begin changing the entire history of mankind. Great fun!

And if you like alternate histories you should also give Harry Turtledove a try. Although those series of his are sometimes endless you do feel as though you've gotten your moneys' worth. I am going to Amazon now to see what your two recomended authors have written. Any suggested titles of theirs that you liked?
