Tench,

Not really.. at least not yet. For every extra wafer there are 2 needed right now. Cell phone, PDA, etc. growth is outstripping additional capacity.

Ten,

Is anyone worried about the long-term possibility of overcapacity, considering that other big players like Intel and TSMC are busy adding capacity as we speak?

From all indications, the semiconductor business is headed for explosive growth this year.

Tench, re:<Is anyone worried about the long-term possibility of overcapacity>

Even AMD is, thats why they have entered into long term agreements with major flash users to buy AMD products, while Intel hasn't. Will Intel be willing to say how much flash sales went up in Q1?

Tenchusatsu: Re: "Overcapacity, are you worried?"

No they're not. But then, they are true believers and
momentum monsters.

If you want to play the capacity cycle, you need to be in
chemical stocks, not chip stocks.

Hint: there are no true believers in commodity chemicals, just now! And ... certainly no momentum players.

P.S. I could be *very* wrong.
