No shortage of those, on all sides of the political spectrum. I'm all in favor of democracy, but there's no doubt that it has some strange effects. One of them is our insistence on physically attractive leaders. Imagine a person who combined all the positive attributes of all the greatest statesmen in history, without a history of a single sin or lie. Imagine that this person was physically ugly, perhaps short, with a limp or a scarred face. Would this person ever get elected to a high office? This is largely a function of TV, I think. People look more than they listen, and react instead of thinking.
