Carl,I believe that I know how they computed their lies, Be very careful when you call someone a liar; too many lawsuits zipping around out there. Now that we have a better handle on your own motivations and biases as well (loss of a career if RDRAM succeeds), and since we're seeing "unbiased" benchmarks such as the ones in PC Magazine and PC World, I'm much less worried about your technical "musings". We don't need your technical minutae since the game is becoming a PR game now. Two things happen when these types of articles begin to appear: First, potential customers see RDRAM-based systems at the top of the lists (3 of the top 5 systems in the PC World Power PC list). They may have no clue how RDRAM fits into the picture, but they see that the PIII w/ RDRAM is kicking the Athlon systems' butts and their purchase dollars get tugged in that direction. Even your previous pricing analysis becomes moot since the 128M RDRAM systems were smoking the 256M SDRAM/Athlon systems. Second, the manufacturers of the "losing" systems have to respond. Any one who wants to stay in business long term and compete in the "Performance" sector of the business can't afford to just sit back and let the PIII/RDRAM systems smother them. So we begin to see RDRAM-based systems advertised by IBM, Quantex, and Micron Electronics. Pompsander and I had many public discussions last year on the need for the positive PR/benchmarks that we're now seeing. Now that those are showing up and convincingly putting PIII/RDRAM in the lead, the last piece of the puzzle that needs to drop into place is to get the price down. And that may be happening; I believe that Dell has reduced again the price of RDRAM -- I was pricing some Dell systems last night and I think the small business B series models are now back to $380 to upgrade from 128M to 256M. So thanks for all your feedback, but I personally am no longer worried about the power consumption, heat dissipation, etc., comparisons. We're beyond the need for them. Good luck. Dave
