Agree. It's the only argument against the death penalty but a huge argument. States need to jack up their prison building programs.

That seems to me to be an excellent reason for not imposing irrevocable penalties

If it's any consolation, Bush's refusal to stay the execution of Carla Fay Tucker caused me to cross over to the no death penalty camp. I decided that too much discretionary power was given to state governors to either commute death sentences or not and the common denominator seemed to be political reasoning rather than the merits of the cases. But I also believe that once convicted of murder, there should be absolutely no possibility of parole. The popularity of the death penalty stemmed from abuses of the parole system, imo, and is with most things the pendulum of public opinion swung too far in the opposite direction out of frustration with the system.
