However, if Applications were not in the same company as OS, they might be more likely to support, e.g., Linux. Or even the PlayStation. That could greatly benefit consumers.

JMHO.

I'm not sure that a split-up is the most likely scenario, but a more competitive market should clearly lead to a lower price on Microsoft Office, if you compare functionality with price and competitive products.

...A break-up of Microsoft will harm consumers. This fact is axiomatic.

Based on recent 'reports' it sure appears that the plaintiff's intend on doing the very thing the defendant has been convicted of. One other thing, IYO how would a break up of this nature affect the cumulative market capitalization that may be derived from such an event, both short term as well as long?

Is your view still on track for the upside target?

P.S. (OT to some, however it's the same administration and appointees which are suspect in the MSFT trial) Wasn't it pretty to see what the current administration "did for" Elian. I guess the idea of the administration inviting both sides to the oval office for reunification, is not what Castro had in mind. No more representation for Elian now, looks like he will be returned to his real father in Cuba, the State. No human rights let alone parental rights.

The State that:

1) Eliminates milk rations at the age of 7.
2) At age 11, is only allowed to see the parent(s) 3 days a week.
3) Indoctrinates communism into their life, while being used to work in the sugar fields.
4) That has promised Elian upon his arrival, to psychiatric evaluation and 'treatment'.
5) That has fled from and not to, by thousands including Castro's daughter who defected in the early 90's.
6) A Cuban community has been a part of, who wails for proper judicial process in the Nation that they risked their lives to become a part of.

It's disturbing to witness the 'State' presiding over the 'law of our land'.
