As I remember Gov. Bush didn't have that much authority on the matter. I believe Texas has a final review panel on whether a death sentence can be commuted and she was turned down.

bp, So, you would prefer that someone, who brutally took another human being's life, should be housed in relative comfort, fed, and, actually, entertained for an unknown number of years at an exorbitant cost to the, already burdened, taxpayers of this country. The idea of playing politics with human lives really disgusts me

I had a sinking feeling that the review commission did not pass the case on to Bush because they didn't want to hand him an awkward political choice at a critical political moment.

I don't think that's the way these things should be handled.
