If the market continues to drop, one would think the NYSE and Dow would be tanking right along with the Nasdaq. The selloff today in the Nasdaq late day was very unexpected. If it continues, the Dow is going to crack.

Could there be some sort of forced selling, possibly assets of a major hedge fund. That seems to be the logical answer to why the buyers did not step up late day. I can't image individuals are making major redemptions. I can't image the margin calls are still going out to individual investors in a big way.

Retail traders don't know about value stocks; they are just parking their money short term, waiting to get back in to the high flying Nasdaq stocks again---Or maybe they will avoid the high fliers and buy the blue chip tech names as part of the transition back to the techs.

Mike,
Here is a list of stocks that my broker requires AT LEAST 70% maintenance. Forget market sentiment or buy the dip mentality, margin calls couldn't care less. This is a spiral that began because of unbelievable speculation that was fuelled by the scam artists on CNBC et al. It never ceases to amaze me when an analyst goes on TV with a straight face and pumps stocks like RMBS and whatever that bubble British internet auction is, saying " a reasonable value is $1000." He based it on EBAY's capitalization...geezzzzzzz. Anyway, here is the list. Look at any one of them and see how much they declined last week and tell me the NASDAQ is poised for a bounce:
