Any judge who is not elected but, appointed by the President or the Governor, has a good chance of turning out to be a political hack.

Any judge that has to stand for reelection is even more likely to be a political hack. What if such a judge has to decide between what is popular and what is right? What will rule the decision, justice or the likelihood of winning the next election?

It is amusing to imagine a system where if an executed person was later proved innocent, the jury would be required to submit to execution. I suspect that there would be a lot fewer death sentnces passed, and a whole lot fewer inattentive jurors.
