IBM Adds Websphere Payment Manager to AS/400 E-Business Arsenal


SOMERS, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 21, 2000--

Delivers Payment Hosting Capabilities and

New Features for Merchants

IBM today announced new software for the AS/400 that enables service providers to quickly and easily link merchants to payment processors to handle complex e-commerce transactions.

IBM's WebSphere Payment Manager for the AS/400 version 2.1 offers payment hosting capabilities for AS/400 Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) who want to begin renting applications to customers over the Internet. The new software also helps Internet service providers (ISPs), commerce service providers (CSPs), application service providers (ASPs), banks, and other businesses to manage payments from e-commerce Websites.

"We continue to add new e-business functionality to the AS/400 to arm our Web-hungry customers with the best technology in their battle for Internet transactions," said Patrice Mitchell, IBM vice president of AS/400 strategy. "WebSphere Payment Manager for AS/400 serves as a security-enhanced cash register on the Internet, designed to allow merchants to quickly move into the lucrative area of online credit and debit card transactions."

New features for service providers include:

Ability to host a payment service for multiple remote

merchants Security-enhanced management of credit card, debit

card, stored value smart cards, etc. while managing multiple

merchants with individual business data privacy, protection

and integrity Simply install and deploy new payment types

through a Multipayment Framework (MPF) that has the ability to

add new payment methods to the system and deploy real time

payment authorization for merchant use

New features for merchants include:

Seamlessly integrate payments into business processes and

software such as on-line catalogs and accounting packages

Accepts multiple payments and supports multiple languages

(multilanguage, multicurrency support) Reduce losses from

fraud and chargebacks due to misuse of credit card data and

the repudiation of consumer payment claims

IBM's WebSphere Payment Manager includes and utilizes WebSphere Application Server functions for security of user authentication and access control, and servlet support.

Pricing and Availability

WebSphere Payment Manager version 2.1 for AS/400 is available in North America today, and will be available worldwide on April 28. Product prices will vary depending on customer configuration and capacity requirements.
