Jan <Heard early today that the margin debt balance was $278B at the end of March(78% increase from 3/99). Not much "sense and sensibility" in this Mkt.> I sometimes wonder if others have data on a more current basis -- i.e. margin debt estimates on a day-to-day basis -- or fund cash balances - or short sales, etc. We talk sometimes about how the little guy has access to information -- how much info do you think is off our radar screen and on somebody elses?

Hi Jan - Since you guys talk about selling puts , can I ask a question? I sold 3 April 110 puts and 2 TIBX 100 puts that are really deep in the money and Iam losing my shirt on these. Do you guys know of 'safer' stocks to collect the (lost) premiums back even if I have to go way out. Dell, LU appear to be OK candidates. Is INTC,HWP,CSCO OK as well? appreciate feedback.

Jan,

You might take a look at Subject 15637

Thanks for the info about the margin debt balance. What is the best way to interpret this data? Is the figure to watch the % rise from prior year, prior month, or the margin debt balance as a % of some other figure such as total market cap? Have you examined any historical analysis of margin debt?
