MK,

If you've been on this thread for a while, Dave's been (from his perspective) a "bearish" voice of reason. <G>! I don't doubt he's raised some cash early on. But this IS a "chatroom" so you'll never really really know.

However, what he's doing here is to maybe continue to test his hypothesis about whether his decision to be in or out of JDSU was the correct one.

I will tell you for a while he was wrong. It moved way up without him in it.

Now, he looks pretty smart because he has cash with few hard loses. Then, when it was going up without him, he was smart because he had cash. All he lost was opportunity.

He can get back into the stock if he wants to.

You "hang here"to never stop learning from someone else, to meet and share with others.

I learned in almost 4 years here at SI, that there are some incredibly bright people that hang here to share their time and knowledge about what they know. I thank them for that because I've learned a whole lot.

Maybe he's doing that, giving. Maybe he's taking something too, maybe he's learning!

Steve

"I am reading comments by many who seem to have known what was coming.... Where were these people a few weeks ago???"
I can only write for myself. The sources I follow-including some commentary and stock market histories I've read-strongly suggested to me that a) we were in a bubble and b) just after the first of the year, the jig was finally up. I could not know this for sure. It was an augury. But, I made a personal decision--a reasoned guess, if you wish.

Now, as to your question, "where were these people a few weeks ago?" I made several posts including the announcement that I had sold all my shares on JDSU. Most responses I had to my posts at the time were reasoned, even if in disagreement. Some, however, were scoffs. One or two were personal attacks and that was weird. Had you read my posts, would you have acted as I did (sold)? Or, would you have scoffed? Heck, even the librarian in my small-town library chuckled at me.

"If you are that good, why bother hanging around these threads and wasting your time? You should be doing something better."
This reads like bitterness, but my interpretation could very well be off base. If I am off base, sorry.

As for "doing something better," I have learned a lot from people in this thread, so I think I'll keep reading.

Also, please understand I do not feel good right now. I would rather have been able to stay in and see my stocks keep going up and I would don't think it is funny for people to have to take margin calls or even lose paper profits. This sucks.

Ciao,
David Todtman
