hi pw,

"Perhaps in a few months the 'use' database will once again reflect my system accurately and enable SpeedDisk to place things optimally"

wow, what a gotcha. i never would have been looking for that, but it makes sense now that it's happened. good news is that you don't have to wait a few months. how's a few days sound? <g3>

speed disk options permit you to specify how these files are arranged, and it looks like you can select 'by dates' and then choose the most frequent access settings, 'day'. other obvious choices are week, month, quarter and year. it would seem then that if you desire, you could go in and optimize by the day, then in a week select week. that should put you just about right back where you were.

to get to these settings (imo they could be made a little easier to find), select properties on the optimization dialog, then options, optimization tab, customize button.

thanks for the heads up on the gotcha. fair warning as to the downside of little tweaks, huh?

:)
