Here is simple secret a lot of small companies use.
Even if you license a development version or a few seats
you can pretty sure see your company name in those long list. I have seen such a list from a company where we licensed a development package ( for trial/evaluation) with a minimum of 5 seats and we saw our name go up.
So small companies use this kind of list to market themselves. Small companies are desperate in associating their names with well known/market leaders. Nothing wrong in that. But people not familiar with this kind of stuff can be mislead by such a lengthy list from a company's own home pages.
Of course there is no way a (small) company would like to quote the dollar contract or number of licenses (as it will lead to a true picture and often compromise some marketing data) in such a list.

Bob- You don't necessarily want to look at the fact that EXLN has a service or consultation portion to it's business as competing with their partners. Here's how I see it working and all corrections are welcome from someone out there that has a better view on how it works.

Suppose you are iXL and you are designing a big website for a client. You know that the EXLN integration server is going to answer the customer's needs, you've done all the design work behind the site and you need to attach that to the existing computer systems that the customer is using. So you call in the consultant from EXLN because they are going to be totally up to date on the latest solution using their company's products. This stuff is moving fast, very fast and it is hard for anyone to keep track of all the solutions and support them.

The guy from EXLN works with you, you get the installation done correctly and you learn how to do the next one. You also gain the skills to service the account going forward. This is where the idea of a partner comes in, no competition.
