AMD shows its smarts in its K6-2+ news release this afternoon:

biz.yahoo.com

Notice the release time is 5:17 PM EST.

This is the first time in the last few years that AMD releases its CPU product after market close. Mostly done in the morning. AMD could have released this news in conjunction with HP's new notebook news yesterday.

They waited till this afternoon, and with a good reason.

Perhaps, they want a confirmation from Intel's Q1 report that Intel's supply problems continue.

With K6-2+ release right AFTER Intel Q1 report, AMD says that we are ready and able to supply across CPU product lines where Intel have trouble with.

Rob Herb, your troops have done a good job with this one!

Steve,

The other key item is voltage and power can be throttled down to 3W. Excellent for road warriors.

The Powernow technology is FAR supperior to Intels speedstep. Here they only offer a 30%-40% reduction.

I am impressed by AMD today.

And remember next year Intel will spend 1 yr bringing up adequate cu and 0.13 capacity.

Should be fun watching that as they try to bring up 2-3 MegaFabs on a Cu process.

regards,

Kash
