Gary, I don't have time to write an adequate reply to your post but I can't let it pass without a response. I'm not going to get into a debate about Jesse Jackson per se. About that I'll just say that he's far from a perfect individual, I disagree with a lot of things he does, but I don't think he's deserving of your diatribe. In fact, I could probably take that diatribe, edit it a little bit and make it apply to virtually any political activist, liberal or conservative.

To the basic point. Racism exists in this country. It is pervasive and it is very ugly. Black people in this country have to deal every day with indignities that white people cannot even begin to imagine. Ad hominum attacks on human beings who fall short of your standards of perfection do not change that fact.

I dont mind Jesse speaking out against racism.. that's a great thing to do... what I cant stand is his solution..

make sure blacks get a majority position in everything.. or let some black have a job that he's not really qualified for.. he wants blacks to have favors BECAUSE they are black.. that's not right..

if someone chooses a white candidate over a black and the black is MORE qualified.. then THAT is racism and should be dealt with (discrimination)... however, if someone has to choose a black person (or minority) that is less qualified because he/she doesn't have enough minorities in their place of employment.. that to me is CLEARLY wrong.. yet Jesse preaches for just that type of thing all the time..

anytime a black person gets in trouble Jesse is there to claim the ONLY reason they are in trouble is because they are black..

We need to strive for equal rights.. not equal returns.. if you want a job... go out and earn it.. fight for it.. get educated.. do all the things you can.. no matter what your color.. dont let someone hand you a job you dont deserve just because of color.. and DONT feel you "deserve" just because of your color either.. earn it.

I work with alot of black people... I think they all are doing a great job.. I'm a manager and some of my people are black.. I look at them no differently than anyone else.. they work for me because they are the best candidates that wanted they job.. and are doing a great job at that.. but I cant stand it when HR tells me I have to pass up a black to get a Mexican or a Chinese to get a Arab or a white to get a black.

Anyway, you've opened up a can of worms here so I'd expect you to get some heated replies. I will close by saying I am 100% against racism.. it's rooted in evil and hatred.. but human nature would have many folks use that political topic to further their careers... many folks on capital hill do it... that doesn't make it right..

I guess it's just frustrating to watch Jesse in action because his solutions NEVER make any sense to me.. When I'm a bit older if I have 2 children and one of them goes out and mows the yard and the other sits and watches TV... I'm going to reward the hard worker... I wont feel bad that the other child of mine gets nothing. I'm not going to say, "Well, it's not fair that one gets something and the other doesnt just because the boy is capable of mowing and the girl is too young/weak to do it (maybe I got it backwards.. my wife is stronger than me.. but using a simple illustration)". Instead, I'll likely offer my girl a job she is capable of doing and see how she accepts the challenege/responsibility.

Let's RAISE the bar in this country.. not lower it.. let's strive to be the best we can be... with hard work and determination we can ALL succeed! This is a country in which our dreams CAN come true. No matter what your color. You CAN be everything you desire. Don't accept NO.
Challenge the person who sees you in the mirror everyday!
Have faith in God, yourself and in those you love.

In God we trust! Remember that?!?! Anyone??

I don't disagree with anything you've said, Gary, except that the issue is not race, the issue is liberalism and thinking approved thoughts. There are a number of people who have decided what we can think and what we can't. Opinions in agreement with these superior beings are good, while anyone harboring other thoughts is evil -- not just the thought is evil, the PERSON holding the thought is evil.

Just listen to how the word "hate" is used these days. Do you oppose abortion? You are practicing hate. Like guns? You're part of a hate group. Be glad to see Klinton leave office? You are full of hate. Name a non-liberal point of view and watch the epithets fly.

I disagree with much of what Mark has to say, but I have to give him credit -- he argues the facts instead of using the usual tactic of personalizing the attack. But, stand back and watch the fur fly for your "hate filled" post. :-)
