Dave,

I believe that the most likely explanation for the apparent 840 superiority over the 820, is that the dual channel 840 allows twice as many banks to be open. This results in fewer page misses and decreased latency.

If so, all DRDRAM implementations will need to be dual channel to keep up with DDR.
