HEAR....seeing short-covering under 7, but like you said Rande, there seems to be little movement and interest in bounces in the market in general.

Actually, I've been thinking about the changing dynamic in the market...Here goes... The daytraders should have been "protected" from the huge drop if they played right .. so they should be still in the game.. if they stay "normal" they will begin to look for new momo plays, but these are unlikely to be in the past issues...so we need to look at new fodder..I anticipate seeing some run ups in places that haven;t been big in the past .. issues that can be "controlled"... Margin players are out... question is, Why did the MMs dump them... you may be right, it may take another 6 months to "restock" new players.... The funds should have protected themselves. So my current view is like yours .. they cleaned out the weak margin players...

I have to go back and look at the volume to be more clear.

My Friday observation was based on cycle and some bounce in individual stocks. The 1-2-3 down cycle would have suggested an early week up followed by a trickle down to just above the recent lows... IF this weeks low, is higher than the recent low.. my thought is that we have truely bottomed more so if volume starts to pick up again...

Man, I'm really busy in Detroit... worked right through this past weekend..

Kevin

Yeah, I think that could be the case. Pursuing some of the daytrading threads recently I noticed there are a lot of names missing. There were probably more people washed out of the market then we are aware of, and it may take a while for folks to get their "legs" back in terms of momo. The biotechs for instance didn't do a thing in this week's rally. A lot of people got burned on them and it will take a while for them to want to touch these issues again.

We may not get the bounce today. I think some people are probably grateful for the gains made this week and/or the boost their portfolios got back and don't want to push their luck, or are worn out from the weeks of worry and volatility. 'Tis a shame because I'm ready to play while the Big Cats are away.

If I may interrupt: I was at a Seder last night with a broad mix of bright folks. Almost every one of them was talking about the stock market and the huge losses they'd taken. (Everyone is a trader these days.)

Until recently everyone had been pretty cocky, thinking making money in stocks was as simple as buying Texas Instruments on margin. Now they seem to be in shock. I'm not sure what the implications of that are for the markets, but it's probably a step in the direction of washing out some of the excesses.

Like you, I expected heavy volatility today. It just didn't happen. Maybe the day traders are scared. I certainly am. bglad

Rande...I don't see any mention of...A.)dilution from option lock ups in the billions monthly and B.)fed created money[I think it's called M2]it's approximately -45% now and was + 60% in Dec. 99.
These seem to be 2 pertinent factors that heed some thought.
