Dave:
Followup. Samsung states that market for 512Kb SDRAM varients to reach $41B in 2004. It doesn't leave much room for RDRAM IMO.

Re: "Samsung Electronics officials expect to supply their 512Mb DRAM to large manufacturers of servers. The initial market for this new device is seen to form in 2001. Demand is forecast at around US$20 million in 2001 and is expected to skyrocket to US$41.1 billion by 2004."

Hmmm... 20 M $ market in 2001. The mix of SDRAM to DDR SDRAM is not clear. INTEL's roadmap calls for SDRAM to be around in low end (high volume) systems for sometime to come.

Does not sound like much competition for RDRAM for 2 years. By that time there will be new RDRAM chipsets and memory arrays.
