E, the issues you highlight are not only supported by most conservatives, they are also supported by most Americans. With the exception of perhaps New Hampshire (I believe) same sex marriage has been turned down by a large majority of voters. Heck, even in California the measure lost by a fairly large majority. It's called a Democracy.

You call yourself a moderate. Yet, support the same sort of government intrusions in areas you find morally right or wrong. As you've already said, you don't support abortion in the third trimester. That's a moral decision you have made. Do you support marriage between siblings, humans and animals, or between mother and son? Probably not.

Therefore, you have made a moral decision, in the same way many conservatives have toward same sex marriage.

Liberals on the other hand, not only want a hand into our very children's mind, (via the forced government education system) they want a hand in our pocketbooks to support their moral beliefs.

The extreme environmentalists movement (supported by liberals such as Al Gore) is nothing more than a religion which worships mother earth. And although they represent a minority of non-thinking Americans, they attempt to force by law their religious beliefs on the rest of us.

I am glad to see you've decided to succeed the point regarding which side (liberal or conservative) is attempting to inflict government intrusion in our lives to a greater degree.

That's the only point I was making. Do conservatives support government intrusions? Of course they do. That's one of the reasons they call themselves conservatives and not libertarian. In some areas of law, a national government is necessary and needed. And it's one of the ways in which we can differentiate a conservative from a libertarian.

Personally, I consider myself a conservative/libertarian. Because I believe government intrusion should be kept to an absolute minimum. Especially in areas of social law. But I am not a complete libertarian in all issues. And Dogs marrying humans is repugnant to me.

Culture is the fabric around which are country is woven together. And laws which support certain cultural mores help bind our society together. Some cultural mores might change over time when a majority of people presenting their ideas agree with the change.

That's what freedom and democracy is all about. We will NEVER agree with every issue as one monolithic group. Disagreement, in the arena of ideas, is what are country was founded on. So disagree away. However, when you make a sweeping inference toward supporting the notion that conservatives wish to intercede in our lives at the same level liberals do. I will challenge the assertion when the urge strikes. As I have done here.

Michael
