Do you not know the difference between an induction and a deduction? You would have to have perused much of the same material, or had many of the same experiences, to guarantee that we would not have differences in generalization. I am trying, at least, to show some of the material that has influenced my generalization about the aim of morality........

J.S. Furnivall once compared the British Colonial Office to a cuttlefish, noting that both had the tendency, when backed into a corner, to conceal themselves in clouds of ink. We may be witnessing a similar phenomenon.
