If it weren't for the broadband aspect I would be the first one to agree with you. I feel that during the changeover to broadband, many users change their isps. I think it's the best chance to grab share from the likes of AOL.

Because of the very nature of the monopoly that cable companies still enjoy I feel that ATHM can grab share from other players and keep them.

Now I don't need to tell you that dealing with the local cable company is no picnic, but dealing with the phone co is no better. Their customer service departments are nothing short of kiss me, kick me in the ass, and thank you for very much for using blah blah blah.

There are no alternatives now though. And one of DSLs problems which plays in ATHMs favor is the fact that many areas can't get DSL and won't be able to for some time because of the necessity of equipment upgrades.

All things considered, ATHM looks like the best play on broadband and if you liked the price at 40, you'll love it at 18.

If you are not looking for broadband, avoid isps like the plague.

May as well buy shares of Con Edison, or Pacific Bell.
