From a Micron PC ad -

"We suggest you deploy the Millennia MAX 800 from Micron. The unheard-of 800MHz speed of its Intel Pentium III processor will quickly establish your global dominance."

heheh

But it would have been more funny a couple of months ago.

FWIW, I saw a Compaq ad for the 1GHz Athlon Presario in PC Magazine. This is the first time I have seen a major OEM advertise an Athlon based PC, but then again, I almost never look at computer magazines...

Gateway is also starting to advertise the 650MHZ $1299 Athlon Select system on the internet. It used to be the 550MHz PIII system that was advertised.

Oh yeah, Dell is offering a PIII 700 system for the same $1299 price. Judging from the prices at Pricewatch of the 650MHz Athlon and 700MHz PIII ($161 vs. $372), Dell must be getting a really sweet deal on PIIIs. Guess that is why they are Dell.

Re: I think it was a slip of the tongue...

Perhaps incorrectly, I interpreted his statement to mean that present Rambus prices wouldn't hold back willamette in its currently targeted (high end) market which is not very price sensitive. But that current rambus prices would keep willamette from moving down to midrange and low end markets that are much more sensitive to price.

Regards,

Dan

Re: "BTW, what was the announcement Elmer said was going to happen this week? I don't remember anything significant."

Comment: They did release earnings...They seemed to be significant if change in stock price is any indicator of significance.
