I don't think that is the general take on the situation over here, and even among the younger generation of Cuban Americans. I read an interesting piece on Elian's Miami relatives - a pretty unsavoury bunch including some criminals. As someone pointed out on the radio this morning the father's rights are pretty sacroscant - even O.J. Simpson got custody of his children. It's easy to blast Reno - and let ideology get in the way - but maybe this incident will pave the way for normal relations with Cuba so that when the boy grows up Cuba will be a different place. Those people had little regard for the lad - he was a pawn in the battle against big bad Fidel. Sad to say.

searle: one of these day maybe i break down and get a tv...have not had one for more that 20 years...always wondering if i missed anything...threw out the radio a few years ago too...now, i proudly say i now get no only all the news i need from the weather reports, i now get all the news fit to post on the internet chat groups...and all of this began with my first tipping of my toes to that wonderland of kitco...:) have seen headlines walking pass the news racks about something in miami....i think i would live a sheltered life if it wasn't for the internet....gulp!! guess there will be something else after this..always is. guree tom @ feeling cynical and pestimist on this Holy Saturday before the great uplift.... H-A-P-P-Y.....E-A-S-T-E-R...to you and yours all... see i can be as happy as the next guy...:) (end of stream of consciousness postings for the moment).
