Reno, you did a GREAT job this morning! My respect for you just went up ten fold. My only regrets are that Elian should have been given back to his daddy a loooooong time ago and in today's raid you did not let the agents crack a few heads open, especially Lazaro's (who was probably passed out from drinking in the basement).

3 minutes...the final necessary traumatic incident for Elian who can now start the healing process with his loving family away from the media circus these "relative" scumbags have put him through for over five months.

Whatever credibility the leadership of the cuban exile community had in this country has been severely diminished and proven to be a bunch of fanatic lunatics blinded by their hate of Castro who would dare to parade a six year old boy around like an animal in a circus for their political gain to "get back" at Castro. Again they end up on the losing side. I hope some moderates rise in their leadership who will advocate more sensible policies against Cuba and Castro would be gone sooner than they ever anticipated. But, then again, these two probably deserve and need each other to stay in power.

As much as I despise Clinton (for entirely different reasons, mainly revolving around the Kosovo fiasco and inept foreign policy decision makers) this was handled in the utmost care and patience. They gained my respect by their lighting quick operation today.

Elian back with his daddy. No more Elian paraded around like an animal. Let's get back to normal.

I could not help but chuckle at the anger these people in Miami show...and the ridiculous mayor...and Lazaro wanting to fly to Maryland to see Elian..LOL...I think he is still not sober yet...

I strongly suspect that the central point in Slider's argument there, the purported factoid that Juan Miguel sanctioned the taking of Eli n to sea [or that he was in any way aware of it before the event, much less contacted Miami], is just another invention like the child abuse charges they cooked up just recently. Ruthlessly sick. Reprehensible.

They're out of it now, that Miami bunch .. they can rant all they want, but they're out of it, finally, and father and son are together.

As soon as all impediments to Juan Miguel's rightful decision as to where to raise his family are removed, it will be time to turn to that other villain in the piece, Fidel. At that point he begins to lose bigtime - Eli n's progress and the progress of his peers in comparison will be followed with probing interest by many of us.

Here's the best picture of the day.

news.excite.com

It conveys Elian's obvious relief to be with his closest family...no longer a martyr, just a little boy happy to in the arms of his father at last.

The earliest polls indicate that 65% of the American people agree that justice was served today. It is time to move on.

"The Courts have spoken" ?

...I think that is the question, far, far from the answer.

Clearly; they have not spoken; what they did - was to pass the buck...

re: "Who am I to judge that a child should not be with his father ?"

- Well; you obviously missed my ENTIRE point - that being; that we never really got a chance to hear what the Father "really" wanted. This guy was "controlled" by "handlers" and held on Cuban Diplomatic Soil, or under guard in his meetings with Reno - in which he merely got to meet with some liberal "fronts" from Clintonland.

That they had to "Jack Boot" storm the house - was entirelly related to Clinton wanting this swept away before it became a Presidential Election issue for Gore, or could have tainted "Hillarious" in furthering her sociopatchic political agenda...

Don't you think that Elian & the Family at least deserved their day in court to at least ask - "that depends what your definition of is - is" ?

Clinton folded on Castro's threat to flood American Shores with another Miami Invasion of refugee's from the Prison's & Mental Institution's - I'm sure the timing would have also been tied to the elections.

Both sides should have had their "day in court" - they never got it; as Clinton did.... that is the hypocrisy here.

The courts did not rule - that's the point, they passed the buck; there are many, many open issues, not the least being that there is no "age" requirement in present law permitting this Child to express his own wishes to remain in America and to claim assylum - that is the most lucid legal point that I see in the entire matter fwiw !

The only point that the law is actually very clear on here; is - if the kid made it to American soil - under the Cuban Refugee Act - he gets to make his own choice - no age prerequisites - period ~!

As far as your comments of my having let MY politics get in the way of MY humanity and common sense - that is my other main point ! - that we in America do not understand the reality - that this child is not going back to the warm humanity of his family in his prior home, school etc. He is going to the Castro - Boot Camp for deprogramming - that is undeniable fact. This child will cease to receive humanity - that is the catalyst for Clinton/Reno acting now - because the REAL STORY of what Elian would be facing was starting to leak out....

If we ever gave the father the opportunity to "freely" speakn on "free soil" with his family - most everyone knows that the Father would have sought assylum for his family and Elian here in America. That Greg Craig - Clinton's former Monica-Gate personal attorney became the mouthpice for Castro also makes me want to Puke ~

Clinton & Castro... they'll both ultimately end up in the same place... a bit warmer than Cuba however imho.

PS - that PHOTO says it all... it will haunt Clinton's non-legacy forever... the Blue Dress, the Cigar, Waco burning and now the PHOTO with the Jack Booted Thug with the H&K MP 9 Sub Gun pointed at a hysterical child... kind of makes the Nixon Tapes seem irrelevant doesn't it...

We just destroyed the life & the hope of a small child whose mother gave her life so that her child could breathe the breath of freedom on American Soil...

A sad day to be an American...an even sadder day to still see Bill Clinton as our leader.

One final thought:

Would this child be going back to Castro's Cuba if Ronald Regan were President ?

Morality & value's in our leaders do count.

We've just seen what can happen when sociopathic political chameleons are elected... let's hope they see the light in New York State...
