I don't know what the wild horses thought, but it was clear that they disapproved of being broken. The wild-eyed stare of a terrorized horse is a painful thing for me to see. The look of a dog (or a child) when they've done something well and they come to get their reward is one of the most pleasing in the world to me. I love rewarding virtue, good acts, and learning. I don't think punishment or fear of punishment of any kind helps anyone -- horse, dog, or man -- to be good.
