As a point of interest, I track the number of NYSE stocks that are above their 200 day MA. I have this daily data back to the early spring of 1996. On February 25, 2000 this number dropped to 21%. That's the lowest number since late August and early September 1998 when the number hit 14% on two separate days.

From the February low it quickly rose to 40% on April 12. The big selloff only dropped this indicator to 31% on April 14th and 17th. It closed this past week at 35% and is now above a 50 day and 200 day SMA. I note that the April 12 high of 40% was very close to a 50% retrace of a recent range.
