After I wrote that post I realized that I did not have quantitative numbers on the impact. Since humans tend to overreact or magnify the importance of things, I must agree, at least to the point of saying that I don't know that loss of trading gains will cause a deficit. When you throw in the psychological impact manifested in curtailed spending and maybe loss of self confidence, then I am not so sure you are right. Anyway, I don't have hard figures either way.
