There is still a lot of money to be made on market orders by the brokerages. It would not surprise me at some point to see them pay you to trade. By this I mean a person entering a market order would be paid a small fee by the brokerage firm for placing the order with them. As more and more firms join the online revolution the pickings get a bit thinner.

LOL. "Free" market orders.

Market orders are rarely free - just less costly without commissions to add into the mix.
