I didn't say your speculations were unreasonable, just that I disagree. Since one cannot possibly fathom what aspirations might lie within human beings until subsistence issues are settled, I do not think it erroneous to focus on more developed societies. As soon as societies build up a substantial surplus, they start building cities, develop some sort of writing, develop social classes, and so forth. Apes are content to stay at a subsistence level, do not cover their nakedness, do not build houses or temples, do not coin money or sacrifice to the gods. They have neither literature nor art, but amuse themselves more simply. We may share most chromosomes with chimpanzees, but the differences in our behavior are dizzying......

Steven: I ask this humbly. You have tweaked me brain: With a real question - not an addition, nor a challenge, to the Morality Topic contents.

You have reasoned that peace and harmony within units are the trial-and-error basics of successful group, societal, cultural survival? (If not, my following words are worthless.)

Will you allow that a unit's creations are parts of the unit, reflecting the character of the unit?

Question: Is the Morality you have developed essentially Amoral - having no relation to Right or Wrong, being simply survival oriented?

I ask this because I am not up to fitting certain elements into your structure. Examples: Mongols, Vandals, Slavery, Robber Barons, Empires - and, up to the moment, Corporations (which, I believe, prosper by means that are demonstratively anti-social, or anti-society).

Is your construction a total abstraction? Have I really missed the juice of it?

Please, even though it may take baby-talk, clear me up on this.

Thanks,

George
