One thing is certain - neither Elian nor his Father will have the benefit of the rule of law in Cuba.

Civil disobedience is what I call the behavior of the Miami Cuban relatives. The INS is a government agency and its actions are not beyond the pale of the law. The Miami Cubans, IMO, believed that they were entitled to their day in court regarding their arguments as to the welfare of the child.

I believe that Elian's life as the ward of the totalitarian state cannot enhance his ultimate welfare, regardless of his being with biological father.

The rule of law means Elian's relatives should get their day in court before commando tactics are used.

Janet Reno's actions are unconscionable and she should be removed from office based on the atrocities of Waco and the irreparable damage she has done to the principles of the rule of law and civil behavior.

Remember the forced integration of Central High in Little Rock in 1957? That was ordered by Ike AFTER the Supreme Court overturned the "separate but equal" doctrine in the landmark Brown v. Topeka Board of Education. Janet has done essentially the same thing without such due process of law.
