Dave,

They need to brand. Television spots. Big time spots. Before Intel "fixes" their production problems and before Willy comes out.

That may come in time, but since AMD is sold out for this quarter, I wouldn't be surprised if the same did not happen in stronger Q3 and Q4, what would this money spent on advertising really buy?

Joe

ad-guy Dave -- you are absolutely right that AMD needs more advertising. There needs to be a good slogan, an Athlon logo and a jingle. And I would suggest that the most fruitful use of advertising $$$ would be to reimburse retailers and box makers who use the Athlon logo, slogan and jingle in their ads.

They have cash now and need to spend it on advertising, or they will be quickly forgotten. People need to REQUEST Athlons, not take them when they can't get PIII's. As much as I'm glad AMD is selling chips - don't forget they're sold out ONLY because Intel can't produce enough to meet the demand. <IMO>

Dave,

I would agree if AMD weren't sold out for the quarter. With market conditions the way they are, I would spend money on advertising but minimally right now in order mainly to build some brand recognition, and save the big bucks for the bad times.
