The American right to bear arms came out of the knowledge that power corrupts, the state (government) has power, and will become corrupt and that the people must have the physical ability to overthrow the government.

Not yet having beaten down the authority (the British), the 2nd Amendment was pretty well required in order to adhere to Rationalism.

Much has changed since that quaint time - nuclear bombs, the internal combustion engine and airplanes, for example. I wonder what wise rebels such as Jefferson and Franklin would have to say on the issue today, under such changed circumstances.

That every white male American over 21 shall have the right to bear nuclear weapons on the wingtip of an F-17? hmm. Probably they'd guarantee the right of each American to bear paintball guns.

*WAY OT*

Wake up, before your children kill you.

Given the choice of being at the mercy of my children or my government, I'll go with the kids. At least I might be able to reason with them.
