Technically, the downgrades happened before it hit the 52-week low. Anyway, you should manage your own money. Let the fundies manage someone else's. Fact is that only relative performance is measured. They may think that there are better cats to skin. I wouldn't follow their example..

The future looks bleak, that's why. We can only guess what the company will look like post-breakup. How many talented employees will leave? What will keep them there? Many stock options are either vested or underwater. What happens if an employee with MSFT options ends up working for one of the spinoffs? What happens to his options? I think we will see a big exodus of talent. This may be good overall for the economy, with more startups, but bad for MSFT.

<<It was silly to watch GS, and a whole bunch come out of the woods and downgrade when MSFT was already at 52 week low.>>

It's not so silly when all their indicators are pointing that it can only go lower.

GS and all the other fund managers are responsible for looking out for their investors. If this means selling MSFT at 69 before it hits 52 so be it. I'm sure GS clients are very happy with the decision that they aren't going to lose more.

When will this institutional dumping stop. These are the guys we pay money to manage our funds.

Exactly for that reason. Because idiots pay them to manage their funds. Why do you hand over your money to them to do as they wish with it? If you actually believe these people know what to do with your money better than you do, you deserve what you get.
