I don't think Joan was being intellectually lazy. I posted that there is an immigration law written specifically for Cubans which says that if a Cuban emigre touches US soil, he or she is automatically eligible for asylum. This is common knowledge, no? There was no point in looking anything up. I think there was a modification to the law in 1978, but the premise remains intact.

As to whiskey, I must confess that I haven't tasted alcohol in quite a few years. I didn't stop due to any moral compunction, just a regard for my liberty and other people's sanity.

When I was actively imbibing, I favored many brands of bourbon, (what was the brand whose label showed dice coming up 5 and 2?) but I always felt Epicurean aesthetics were more important. The technique of knocking back was always preferred over the barbaric practice of sipping over ice.

You can really be a twerp, nihil.

If you had troubled to look at the exchange that led up to the post you pounced on, you would have seen that: 1)I began by saying that I was not familiar with the Elian case at all, and 2) I was following up on the information in Charley's post, which is why I referred you to him.

Although I do have special areas of expertise, I do not consider myself a scholar on everything, nor do I consider that I have to know -- or appear to know -- a subject inside-out before posting anything about it on an SI coffee house thread.

In short, whatever I may be, I am not a pompous ass -- unlike some others around here.
