Few comments from the Q/A session. * They showed a roadmap and on this roadmap each processor is shown as a square. the horizontal axis is time. Spitfire / Duron was pictured slightly to the right of Thunderbird, which I guess could imply that Thunderbird will come first. From the position on the graph, it looked like the introductions will be in fact in June. * Regarding the quantity of Durons this quarter, Jerry said we should expect only a few hundred thousand, I guess because of the infrastructure * Although Jerry did not mention any speeds, there were some demo machines outside, and one of them was Duron running at 700 MHz. There were 2 Thunderbirds at 1 GHz. One was running what looked like a script of a graphics design program, probably photoshop. The other machine ran a program that was a software HDTV decompression software. They had an HDTV program stored in a file on the hard disk. * A question was asked about Asshok Kumar CC question about Athlons in the inventory. Jerry kind of laughed and said that AMD is hand to mouth with Athlon processors. (So much for yet another one of Elmer's theories) * When asked about clock speeds of Thunderbirds, Jerry didn't give any numbers, but he said that Thunderbird has more headroom and that there will be a bigger percentage of GHz Thunderbirds * Jerry said that they are well on the way to reach 1.5 GHz in Q1 2001. He said that he thinks they will be competitive with Willy. He said he didn't know first hand what Willy's performance will be, but he repeated twice that it will have a large die. He also said that he thinks that AMD roadmap is competitive from the comments he gets from customers who have seen both roadmaps * commenting about the current quarter, he said that if there is something that will end up limiting the sales, it will be infrastructure (chipsets / motherboard) * on subject of Dresden, he said the yields they are seeing in Dresden are almost the same as the yields in Austin, mature fab * regarding mobile processors, Mustang will be the first mobile Athlon, reaching 1 GHz speeds. Until then K6-2+ / 3+ is all there is. The power-saving feature of K6-2+ seems a little more complicated (I haen't been paying enough attention here) I think something may be needed to make it fully work, and this something is not in place (pretty clear huh?). The power saving is dynamic. The processor can sense the demand for power, and adjust the speed / power consumption accordingly. * as far as capacity of Dresden, it will be the same as Austin when fully equipped. It will process 5,000 wpw, 250,000 w.p.year. They don't anticipate converting Austin to copper. Jerry said that they have enough capacity in place to capture the goal of 30% market share * Hector spoke briefly. He has a slight spanish accent. Oe comment that I don't think anybody will disagree is that he is not in the same class as a speaker as Jerry. (But than, neither is Bill Gates, nor Andy Grove). I know I am jumping all over the place. * there were probably 100 to maybe 130 people in the room. It seemed thad a good percentage of them were from the press, some analysts, some large shareholders (whose badges were pre-prepared and in gold) and some small shareholders like myself. Ther was this one young guy, who looked like one of those geeks who play Quake all the time. He managed to ask 2 question, the second was really stupid. * the meeting started kind of slow, and I think I started the first applause of Jerry as he got up to do the prepared speech. After that he got a good amount of applause. If I think of something else, I will post it. Feel free to ask questions. Joe
