Tenchusatsu,

Sledgehammer is a new core, K8, not an extension of Athlon. But as far as competition in the server market, Intel is the incumbent, and that itself is worth a lot. Also, Intel will probably have a better infrastructure (chipsets, motherboards). These things are not easy to overcome, even if you have a better-performing CPU.

Tench, why does Intel say it will catch up with demand in the 2nd half? Seems to me with large die cores ramping (Willy and Itanium), they will be hard-pressed to maintain current output.

Or are they just assuming they'll lose market share to AMD?
