RE:"Everybody was very concerned at the time about the AT&T breakup, but one year later the benefits were obvious to all."

I have watched 35% come off my Microsoft investment. Not to mention the NASDAQ with fears of Lawyers getting more of a foothold in Hi-tech. I'll be waiting for the benefits.

AT&T may not be a good comparison. They were a regulated monopoly at the time of the break up and agreed to be broken up...quite unlike Microsoft.
Since technology moves so fast no monopoly (or perceived one) is guaranteed to last very long anyway. The Lawyers are just stroking their thangs and costing investors, retirement plans and likely the GNP another 10-20% going forward. Where are the controls on the government monopoly?
I suspect the DOJ is trying to get all they can before next election...after that...a lot of them will be out of a job.

Yeah, it used to cost a dime to make a call. After the breakup, those 10-10-xxx popped all over my mailbox. They switch my service without tell me. I had to pay for reinstallation of my old service (AT&T) which I am very happy with. I remember making a call from a payphone. All I got was busy signals and I hang up and redialed few times. I never did get through. Surprise, my phone bill arrived and those calls were charged. I spent months and finally got them off my bills. These 10-10-sumbags sent charges to my phone bills. They were $4 per call (minimum charge). This breakup is only good for the fed. They get more tax dollars.

Scumbria,

Let's agree to disagree right now. This is just 100% stupid. You cannot compare at&t to microsoft, it just doesn't work... and save your breath, I know you are democrat till the day you die, so I expect you will try and make excuses, but it's just a pile of horseshit.

AMD didn't need any help from the DOJ. All they needed was a superior product in the area consumers cared about. And that's all microsoft cometitors have to do, but they all fail, so save the arguement.
